At this time, we have no available spaces at the THS farm and we are scheduled to revisit our current Wait List in early Spring 2026.
About the THS and our Farm
THS is a 501c3 charitable organization. We rely on private donations and grant funding to care for the farm and the horses in our care. We are proud to be accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and we maintain our charity best practices to ensure a Platinum level of recognition by Candid. We operate on a 27 acre farm and each of the horses in our care participates in our equine assisted therapy programs. Our horses live in pastures, each with a run-in shed, year round. The THS horses are not stalled at night and they live in herds of 2-5 horses together at all times.
Similar to many sanctuary farms, we operate the farm at full capacity at all times and maintain a wait list. It is very rare that a space opens at the THS farm and when it does, we pull only from our wait list based on the “fit” of the horse with our herd. We carefully assess all new intakes and will communicate directly with each owner to ensure that the horse will thrive in our environment. Once a horse is accepted into the THS herd, the horse’s ownership will be permanently transferred to the THS and the horse will be registered as retired by our accrediting organizations so that they cannot return to racing or breeding at any time. We make the promise of lifelong care to each horse in our herd. We only very occasionally adopt out a horse who we find is not thriving in our farm environment. This decision is thoughtfully made by our Equine Manager on a case by case basis. To learn more about our adoptable horses visit our website.
About the THS Horses
We care for a herd of Thoroughbred and Standardbred horses (only). Our mission is focused on retired racehorses. The THS farm provides lifelong sanctuary to horses who can no longer be ridden due to age or injury. Horses who are sound and ridable are not suitable candidates for our program. We rely on the training that horses experience as racehorses to successfully integrate them into our hands-on program. Untrained horses are not a good fit for our program. The horses at the THS farm are constantly interacting with people who come to our farm for programs and services built around the horse-human connection. We must be very selective in our acceptance of new horses into our herd based on their temperament with other horses and with people of all ages and backgrounds.
