Adopt a Horse

Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga is proud to offer a small selection of adoptable horses looking for their next chapter. While many of the horses who come to us are initially considered unsuitable for riding, some surprise us after evaluation and prove to be sound enough for certain disciplines. These horses are ready for new purpose-filled partnerships outside of our therapy program.

Standardbreds are known for their work ethic, easy-going nature, fun personalities, and hardiness. They often excel in a range of activities. Similarly, Thoroughbreds are valued for their heart, sensitivity, athleticism, and intelligence. Horses from both breeds can be found thriving in Jumpers, Hunters, Dressage, Eventing, Barrel Racing, Polo, Team Roping, Endurance, and more.

At Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, we provide lifelong sanctuary to horses who can no longer be ridden. However, when a horse in our care shows potential for a riding career, we believe in offering them the opportunity for a fulfilling second chapter. Our rehoming program ensures these sound horses find the right person and purpose while helping us continue to care for those who remain in sanctuary.

THS Adoption Process

1. 1. Complete the THS Adoption Inquiry Form 
   2. Review the Lifetime Allegiance Document and the Adoptee Requirements Document (at the bottom of this page)
   3. After reviewing your Inquiry Form, THS will send you the THS Adoption Application, Lifetime Allegiance Document and THS Liability Form.
   4. Submit Adoption Application and THS Liability Form as instructed.
   5. After your Adoption Application has been reviewed by the THS Equine Advisory Committee, the THS Equine Care Manager will be in touch with next steps.
